On the occasion of August Kranti Diwas, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Shri Devender Yadav hoisted the flag today at the historic Town Hall Chowk in Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi, in the presence of a large number of Congress leaders and workers. On this occasion, Congress workers paid tribute to the freedom fighters and martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence.

Shri Devender Yadav stated that August 9, 1942, marked a decisive turning point in the history of the Indian freedom struggle, when Mahatma Gandhi sounded the bugle for the ‘Quit India Movement’ with the clarion call of “Do or Die” against British rule. This movement ignited such a spirit of freedom among the countrymen that it shook the very foundations of British rule. He stated that Today, as challenges confront the nation’s constitutional institutions, democratic values, and the rights of the people, Congress workers will continue the struggle to safeguard democracy and the Constitution, drawing inspiration from the spirit of the August Revolution.

On this occasion, State Organization General Secretary Shri Anil Bhardwaj called upon everyone with the slogan “Safeguarding our freedom is the responsibility of us all,” emphasizing that this freedom is invaluable and that protecting it is a duty shared by everyone. He stated that the Delhi Congress appeals to every citizen to rise above the politics of hatred and division and fulfill their responsibility towards strengthening unity, brotherhood, and democratic values.

Delhi Congress President Shri Devender Yadav has termed the alleged scuffle among party workers and the alleged disrespect shown to the Tricolour during the BJP’s ‘Tiranga Yatra’ today—observed as August Kranti Diwas—as unfortunate. Amidst the commotion, the Tricolour was seen falling onto the road and, for a time, appeared to be trampled underfoot. The incident occurred in the presence of several leaders, including MP Bansuri Swaraj; BJP workers were seen clashing with one another, and the dignity of the Tricolour was compromised.

 Shri Devender Yadav stated that the Tricolour is not the property of any political party but a symbol of the honour and pride of 1.4 billion Indians. Instead of engaging in political posturing, the BJP should learn to respect the sanctity of the Tricolour and the country’s democratic values.
