Ruhullah-MP-JK-819x1024 NC Hits Back at Aga Ruhullah After Resignation, Questions His Record on Special Status

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) has strongly criticised Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi following his resignation, accusing him of targeting the party leadership with abusive language and selectively raising issues such as special status and reservation for political reasons.

In an official statement, the party questioned Ruhullah’s contribution in Parliament towards the restoration of special status and statehood, asking whether he had ever mobilised MPs or moved a resolution on the issue. It also questioned his efforts to raise the reservation issue affecting the open merit category and alleged that he failed to challenge the Centre and Lieutenant Governor over the matter.

The NC recalled that Ruhullah had served as a minister in 2010 and contested the 2014 Assembly elections on the party ticket. It said the party had fulfilled its election commitment by forming a Cabinet Sub-Committee on reservation and maintained that its push for statehood would not come at the cost of special status.

Defending its political approach, the party said restoring constitutional rights and identity required sustained political efforts rather than what it described as political theatrics. It also accused Ruhullah of working against the party during the Budgam Assembly by-election despite remaining associated with the NC.
