Meaningful Dialogue Held on New Avenues of Cooperation in Agricultural Development and Food Security

Delhi Government Minister for Art, Culture & Languages and Tourism, Shri Kapil Mishra, held an important meeting today at the Delhi Secretariat with Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and his delegation. Shri Kapil Mishra welcomed the Nigerian Minister and the delegation.

The meeting focused on various aspects related to agricultural development, farmers’ welfare, food security and better management of agricultural produce.

The meeting began with brief introductions by both sides. This was followed by a presentation by the Development Department of the Delhi Government on the current status of the agricultural sector in Delhi and various schemes and initiatives being implemented by the Delhi Government and the Government of India for the welfare of farmers.

The Delhi Agricultural Marketing Board (DAMB) also made a detailed presentation during the meeting. It provided an overview of the management of the supply and marketing chain for grains, vegetables, fruits and flowers through mandis, the process through which agricultural produce reaches the market, and the role of the mandi system.

On the occasion, Minister Shri Kapil Mishra said, “There is immense potential for cooperation between India and Nigeria in the field of agriculture and food security. Sharing the Delhi Government’s experience in working for the welfare of farmers, implementing agricultural schemes and managing the mandi system can prove beneficial for both countries.”

He further said, “Technology, better management and a robust market system play a crucial role in protecting the interests of farmers as well as strengthening food security. Today’s meeting provided a meaningful platform to explore new avenues of mutual cooperation in the areas of agricultural development and food security.”

The Nigerian Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security expressed his gratitude to the Delhi Government for the meeting and the presentations. He described the information shared during the meeting as useful and informative and thanked the Delhi Government for its support towards strengthening agricultural development and food security in Nigeria.

During the meeting, both sides also discussed taking forward the exchange of knowledge, experiences and expertise in the agricultural sector between the two countries, along with continuing dialogue on potential areas of cooperation in the future.
